A form you built and published in the builder can appear on any page or post of your WordPress website. There are three ways to do it: the shortcode, the "Funnelforms" block in the block editor, and the "Funnelforms" widget in Elementor. All three are part of Funnelforms Free and Funnelforms Pro.
Requirements
- The form is published. Visitors only see the published version.
- You may edit forms (the right "Edit forms"), so you can find the form in the list and copy its shortcode.
- For Elementor: Elementor is installed and active on your website. Without Elementor the widget is not loaded.
- Popups and the corner button are part of Funnelforms Pro. In Funnelforms Free the form always appears right in the page.
Where to find it
- Shortcode: Funnelforms → Forms. Every row shows the form's shortcode below its name, with Copy. Right after publishing, the Published dialog shows the shortcode too, and More ways to embed takes you on to the Embed workspace.
- In the builder: Embed at the top → Inline embedding. There you copy the shortcode and see the steps for the shortcode, the block editor and Elementor.
- Block: in the block editor of a page or post, the block Funnelforms (category "Widgets"). Search terms in the block inserter include "form", "funnel", "lead" and "popup".
- Elementor: in the Elementor editor, the widget Funnelforms (panel group "General"). Its settings are in the "Content" tab, in the section Form.
Features at a glance
- Shortcode
[funnelforms id="…"]for forms that come from Funnelforms 3, and[funnelforms uid="…"]for forms you created in the new builder. - The earlier shortcode
[anfrageformular2 id="…"]keeps working, in Funnelforms Free as well. - Block with form selection and a live preview in the editor.
- Elementor widget with the same form selection.
- The Display field (Pro only) for popups and the corner button. The default is In the page.
Step by step
With the shortcode
- Open Funnelforms → Forms. Alternatively, open the form and choose Embed at the top → Inline embedding → Copy.
- Click the shortcode in your form's row. It is copied to the clipboard and the button briefly shows Copied.
- Open the page or post where the form should appear.
- Paste the shortcode into a shortcode block or a paragraph.
- Save the page and open it to check the form.
With the "Funnelforms" block
- Open the page or post in the block editor.
- Add the block Funnelforms.
- In the block or in the sidebar, choose your form under Form. As long as none is chosen, it reads "Choose a form".
- In Funnelforms Pro, choose under Display how the form should appear, if you like.
- Save the page.
With the Elementor widget
- Open the page in Elementor.
- Drag the widget Funnelforms to the place you want.
- In the section Form, choose your form under Form.
- In Funnelforms Pro, choose under Display how the form should appear.
- Publish or update the page in Elementor.
How it works
What is the difference between id and uid?
Forms from Funnelforms 3 keep their existing number: their shortcode is [funnelforms id="123"]. Forms you created in the new builder have no such number. Their shortcode contains a long identifier instead: [funnelforms uid="…"]. It is best to copy the shortcode from the form list, then it is always right. The block and the widget pick the right form on their own.
What happens when I change the form?
You save changes in the builder as a draft. Visitors only see them once you publish the form. You do not need to touch the shortcode, the block or the widget for that. If your page is cached, it shows the old version until the cache is cleared.
What does the editor show?
In the block editor and in Elementor you see forms on Funnelforms 5 live, but not clickable. This way no test entries are created while you design. A popup never opens in the editor. Forms that still run on Funnelforms 3 show a placeholder in the editor: "Form "…" runs on Funnelforms 3. It is shown on the page."
What is different in Funnelforms Free?
- The block has no Display area. The form always appears right in the page.
- The Elementor widget also has only the form selection and no Display field. The form appears right in the page.
- Shortcode attributes for popups and the corner button are ignored.
- A form that uses a Pro feature visitors go through (for example appointment booking, payment, calculations or conditions with AND/OR) does not appear on the page.
- While Funnelforms Free takes over your forms from Funnelforms 3, the shortcode shows visitors nothing. People who may edit forms see "Funnelforms is moving this form to version 5. It appears here once that is done. Only people who edit forms see this note." instead.
What happens with a form that is not published?
Visitors then see nothing for a shortcode. The block and the widget show nothing either as long as no form is chosen. People who may edit forms see, for a shortcode with uid in Funnelforms Free and Pro, the note "This Funnelforms form is not shown here. Open it in Funnelforms to see why. Only people who edit forms see this note." In Funnelforms Free a shortcode with id shows "This Funnelforms form is not shown: it is not published on version 5 yet. Open Funnelforms in the admin to see why. Only people who edit forms see this note."
Best practices
- Copy the shortcode from the form list instead of typing the identifier.
- After embedding, test the page in a browser where you are not logged in, the way a visitor sees it.
- For popups that open by themselves, set a pause on purpose so that visitors are not disturbed on every page view.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No form appears on the page. | The form is not published, the number or identifier in the shortcode is wrong, or the form has errors that prevent publishing. | Open the form in the builder, fix the notes in the Publish form dialog and publish it. Copy the shortcode again from Funnelforms → Forms. |
| In Funnelforms Free a form does not appear that ran on Pro before. | The form uses a Pro feature visitors go through. | Remove the Pro feature in the builder and publish again, or use Funnelforms Pro. |
| Instead of the form it says "This form needs JavaScript. Please enable JavaScript in your browser." | JavaScript is switched off in the browser. | Enable JavaScript in the browser. |
| The form does not appear although JavaScript is on. | An optimization or cookie plugin delays or changes the form's script. | Add the form's script to the plugin's exclusions. |
| The block editor shows a placeholder instead of the form. | The form still runs on Funnelforms 3. | This is intended. The form is shown on the page. |
| The widget is missing in Elementor. | Elementor is not active. | Activate Elementor and reload the editor. |
| The form in the editor cannot be filled in. | The preview is not clickable on purpose. | Check the form on the published page. |
| In Funnelforms Free no popup opens although a popup option was chosen in the Elementor widget under Pro. | Popups are part of Funnelforms Pro. Free does not show the Display field. | In Free the form always appears right in the page. |
Tips
- Funnelforms 5.0 has no element of its own for other page builders. Use the shortcode there, as long as your page builder runs WordPress shortcodes.
- In the block editor, the block supports the alignments "wide" and "full width".
- The form as a page of its own without the theme around it is an alternative if you want to share it by link. This works in Funnelforms Free too.
FAQ
Can I embed the same form on several pages? Yes. Shortcode, block and widget point to the form. You can put them on as many pages as you like; the entries end up in the same list.
Do I have to change the shortcode after editing the form? No. After publishing, every shortcode, block and widget shows the new version.
Does the old shortcode [anfrageformular2] still work? Yes, in Free and Pro. [anfrageformular2 id="…"] and [funnelforms id="…"] show a moved form the same way.
Can I show the form as a popup in Funnelforms Free? No. Popups and the corner button are part of Funnelforms Pro.
