With the embed code, you show a form of your WordPress website on another website, for example on a shop page, a landing page from a site builder or a website without WordPress. The form loads from your WordPress website, and entries arrive with you as usual. Embed codes that you already added to other websites with Funnelforms 3 keep working. In the settings you decide which websites may show your forms.
Requirements
- Funnelforms Pro. This feature is not included in Funnelforms Free. There Other website in the Embed workspace carries a Pro badge and only shows what Funnelforms Pro offers for it.
- The form is published and runs on Funnelforms 5.
- You may edit forms (right "Edit forms") to copy the embed code in the builder.
- You may change the settings (right "Change settings") to edit the list of allowed websites.
- You can add HTML on the other website, for example with an HTML or code block.
Where to find it
- Embed code: Funnelforms → Forms → open the form → Embed at the top → Other website.
- List of allowed websites: Funnelforms → Settings → Interfaces, card Forms on other websites.
- Whether a list applies: Tools → Site Health → Info, the Funnelforms section, row "Websites that may embed forms".
Features at a glance
- An embed code for every form that runs on Funnelforms 5, also for forms taken over from Funnelforms 3.
- Width and Height of the frame the form appears in.
- Automatic height: the frame grows and shrinks with each step of the form.
- A Preview next to the code shows where and how large the form appears.
- A list decides which websites may show forms. Subdomains are included. If the list stays empty, any website may show forms.
- Existing embed codes from Funnelforms 3 keep showing your form, without any change on the other website.
Step by step
Get and paste the embed code
- Open the form in the builder and publish it if you have not done so yet.
- Click Embed at the top and choose Other website on the left.
- If needed, enter the Width, for example
100%, and the Height, for example600px. - Leave Automatic height switched on so the frame follows each step. The height then only applies at the start.
- At the Embed code, click Copy.
- Paste the code into the HTML of the other website where the form should appear, for example in an HTML or code block.
- Publish the page on the other website and check the form there.
Set the websites
- Open Funnelforms → Settings → Interfaces. From the builder, Change the list takes you there once a list exists.
- Go to the card Forms on other websites.
- In the field Websites that may embed forms, enter each allowed website on a line of its own, for example
example.com. - Click Save.
- Check the embedding on the other website, also on an allowed subdomain.
How it works
How does the embed code work?
The code consists of a placeholder and a small script from your website. The script puts a frame in place of the placeholder that shows the form's own page from your WordPress website, without background and without spacing. With Automatic height, the form reports its height to the frame at each step. Otherwise the frame keeps its height, and longer steps scroll inside it. The script reads nothing from the website around the frame, and nothing but the height comes out of the frame. Several forms on one page are possible: add a code for each.
Which values are allowed for width and height?
The Width takes a number with %, px, rem or vw, the Height a number with px, %, rem or vh. A number without a unit counts as pixels. An invalid value shows a note below the field, and the code then takes the default: 100% width and 600 pixels height. The frame never gets wider than the column of the other website.
What happens when the list contains websites?
The frame may then only appear on your own website and on the listed websites with their subdomains. Other websites show an empty frame, or one the browser blocks, instead of the form. Below the embed code in the builder it then says "Only these websites may show your forms: …".
How may I enter the websites?
You can enter the address with or without https:// and with a path; Funnelforms only takes the name of the website from it. A leading *. is removed. Entries that do not make a valid website are dropped when saving, and so are duplicates. Your own website is always allowed, with and without "www".
What about embed codes from Funnelforms 3?
Embed codes you created in Funnelforms 3 with External embed code keep working and show your form in the new display. This also applies when your website no longer loads the Funnelforms 3 code because all forms run on Funnelforms 5. Funnelforms 5 then answers the requests of these codes itself. The list of allowed websites applies to them as well. For new embeds, use the embed code from the Embed workspace.
How safe is the restriction?
For the new embed code, your website tells the browser on which websites the frame may appear. For old embed codes from Funnelforms 3, the check relies on the origin the browser reports. Both keep other websites from showing your form. They do not stop scripts outside a browser.
What happens in Funnelforms Free?
Funnelforms Free has neither Other website nor the card Forms on other websites. In the Embed workspace, Other website carries a Pro badge and a list of what Funnelforms Pro offers. Embed codes from Funnelforms 3 show no form in Free. Show the form on your own website or through its own page instead.
Best practices
- Leave Automatic height switched on. This way the form gets no scroll bars.
- Enter the websites on which your forms should appear as soon as you use the embed code.
- Replace old embed codes from Funnelforms 3 with the new code when you get the chance.
- Test the embedding on the other website after every change to the list.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| The builder says "This form still runs on Funnelforms 3. The embed code shows it once it uses the new renderer." | The form is still delivered by Funnelforms 3 | Check on the page Funnelforms → Migration why the form does not run on Funnelforms 5 yet |
| The builder says "The form is not published yet. …" | The form has never been published | Click Publish |
| The frame says "Form not found" | The form is not published, still runs on Funnelforms 3, or the code belongs to a deleted form | Publish the form and copy the code again from Embed → Other website |
| No form appears on the other website, the frame stays empty | The website is not in the list, or the list contains a wrong spelling | Enter the website under Forms on other websites and save |
| The frame is cut off or has a scroll bar | Automatic height is off, or the height is too small | Switch on Automatic height, copy the code again and replace it on the other website |
| Below Width or Height it says "A number with …" | The value has no allowed unit | Enter for example 100% or 600px |
| "The embed code for other websites is not available on this website." | This copy of the plugin lacks the part for embedding | Install Funnelforms Pro again from the ZIP file in your account |
| An old embed code shows no form | The website is not in the list, or the form is not published | Check the list and the form. Ideally replace the code with the new embed code |
| A file upload does not work with an old embed code | With the Funnelforms 3 embed code, the "File upload" question type is not possible for security reasons | Use the new embed code, which shows the form's own page |
| The captcha does not appear with an old embed code | The key of the captcha provider does not allow the other website | Allow the website in the captcha provider's account, or use the new embed code |
| A subdomain is not recognised | The main domain is missing from the list | Enter the main domain, for example example.com; subdomains are included |
Tips
- The frame shows the form's own page. That is why the same scripts and consent tools of your website load in it as on that page.
- Changes to the form also appear on the other website after publishing. You do not need to paste the code again.
