In the Settings workspace you decide how a form behaves as a whole: name, progress bar, height, own page and, in Funnelforms Pro, also access, e-mail confirmation, languages and more. The article gives you an overview and explains the sections that have no article of their own.

Requirements

  • You need the right to edit forms.
  • General and Own page are available in Funnelforms Free and Funnelforms Pro.
  • Languages, Calculations, Quiz, A/B tests, Payment, Confirm e-mail address and Access are Pro only, as are Save incomplete entries and Continue later.
  • When publishing, changes to the payment need the right to see entries.

Where to find it

Funnelforms → Forms → open a form → Settings (in the top bar). On the left there is a list of the sections; on the right they appear as cards one below the other. With nothing selected in Structure, the Settings link in the right column also leads here.

Features at a glance

The cards in the order they appear in Funnelforms Pro:

  • General: name, progress bar, incomplete entries (Pro only), continue later (Pro only), height, scrolling on phones
  • Languages (Pro only): more languages and a language choice for visitors
  • Calculations (Pro only): values computed from answers
  • Quiz (Pro only): points and results
  • A/B tests (Pro only): compare two versions of a step
  • Payment (Pro only): a payment after the contact step
  • Confirm e-mail address (Pro only): double opt-in
  • Access (Pro only): password, logged-in visitors only, entry limit, opening times, time limit
  • Own page: the form at an address of its own

Funnelforms Free shows General, Own page and the card More settings with the Pro badge, plus the cards of the Pro settings the form already uses.

Step by step

Change the general settings

  1. Open the Settings workspace and the General card.
  2. Change the Name of the form. Only you see the name.
  3. Turn Show progress bar, Adjust height to each step and Scroll to the form on each step (mobile) on or off as needed.
  4. In Pro you also turn on Save incomplete entries and Continue later here.

Set up the own page

  1. Open the Own page card.
  2. Enter a short name under Address, for example "offer". Letters, digits and dashes are allowed.
  3. Click Save. The full address appears below; take it with Copy.
  4. Remove takes the page away again.

Protect the form with a password (Pro only)

  1. Open the Access card.
  2. Click Protect with a password.
  3. Enter the Password for visitors and click Save password.
  4. Change sets a new password, Remove lifts the protection.

Show the form to logged-in visitors only (Pro only)

  1. Open the Access card.
  2. Turn on Only for logged-in visitors.
  3. If you like, write your own Message for visitors who are not logged in. If the field stays empty, visitors see "Please log in to use this form." The Log in button comes below it.

Set opening times, an entry limit and a time limit (Pro only)

  1. Enter the date and time in Open from and Open until during which the form takes entries.
  2. Enter a number under Close after this many entries if the form should close after that many complete entries.
  3. Write your own text under Message while the form is closed. If the field stays empty, the standard text appears.
  4. Enter under Time limit in minutes (1 to 1440) how long visitors have to fill in the form. Write the message after the time runs out under Message when the time is up.

Have the e-mail address confirmed (Pro only)

  1. Open the Confirm e-mail address card.
  2. Turn on Double opt-in. This only works if a contact step has an e-mail field.
  3. With several e-mail fields, choose the right one under Address from.
  4. Adjust Subject, Message and Shown after confirming.

How it works

What do the switches under "General" do?

  • Show progress bar shows the progress in the bottom bar, with "Step … of …".
  • Save incomplete entries (Pro only): answers are kept step by step, also when visitors leave before sending.
  • Continue later (Pro only): visitors can save their answers and get a link to continue.
  • Adjust height to each step: the form's card becomes as tall as each step. When the option is off, the card keeps the height of the tallest step shown so far so the buttons stay put.
  • Scroll to the form on each step (mobile): on phones the page jumps to the form on each step.

What do Free users see in the settings?

Funnelforms Free shows the General and Own page cards. The More settings card carries the Pro badge and lists under "These come with Funnelforms Pro:" Languages, Calculations, Quiz, A/B tests, Payment, Confirm e-mail address and Access, with the link More about Funnelforms Pro. If a form already uses one of these Pro settings, for example because it was made with Funnelforms Pro, Free shows its card, such as Calculations or Access. There you switch it off or remove its content; while it is used, the form cannot be published in Free. Save incomplete entries and Continue later appear under General only when they are already on in a form, for example after an import. Then you turn them off there; while they are on, the form cannot be published in Free.

What happens while the form is closed?

If the time is outside Open from and Open until, or the entry limit is reached, visitors see the message instead of the form. If Open until is before Open from, the editor warns that the form never takes entries. The check runs on the server.

How does "Only for logged-in visitors" work?

Visitors who are not logged in to your WordPress website see the message and the Log in button instead of the form; it leads to the WordPress login page and back afterwards. Logged-in visitors see the form. The option can be combined with a password. You can translate the message for every language of the form.

How does the time limit work?

Time counts from the visitor's first click. Visitors see the time left. 20 seconds before the end, "Only … left." appears with the More time button, which starts the time again once per visit. Entries sent later are not accepted.

How is the password stored?

Only a hash is stored. The password cannot be shown again. If you forget it, set a new one.

What happens with double opt-in?

Visitors get a link to confirm their address. Mails to them and connections to your tools run only after that; mails to you are sent right away. The placeholder {{confirm_url}} in the message places the link; without it, the link is added at the end. The link stays valid until it is used, and entries show whether the address is confirmed.

What is the own page?

The form on a page of its own, without the theme around it, for ads, mails and links in posts. The address is …/funnelforms/ plus your short name. The page shows the form once it is published.

What do the other cards do? (Pro only)

  • Languages: add more languages and translate texts.
  • Calculations and Payment: values computed from answers and the payment after the contact step.
  • Quiz: with Points per answer or Right and wrong answers the form becomes a quiz. After the contact step visitors see the result their points reach; you set the results under Results.
  • A/B tests: show visitors two versions of a step and see which brings more entries. Changes to the test apply once you publish.

Best practices

  • Turn Adjust height to each step off if the buttons should stay in the same place while clicking through, and on if short steps should show no empty space.
  • Protect only forms with a password that should not be public, and share the password another way.
  • Use Only for logged-in visitors for forms in a members' area.
  • Write your own message for the closed form so visitors know what they can do.

FAQ

Can I lock a form for certain people? In Pro, yes: with a password or with Only for logged-in visitors; then only visitors with an account on your website see the form.

Does the time limit apply to single steps? No. The time limit applies to the whole form and counts from the first click.

Where do I set what happens after sending? Not under Settings, but at the contact step: select it in Structure and open the After sending tab. Only forms without a contact step still have a workspace of its own for it.

Where do I set up the payment? In Pro, on the Payment card. You need a Stripe, PayPal or Mollie account.
