Funnelforms Free and Funnelforms Pro use the same editor. In Free you also see the features of Pro, marked with the Pro badge, so you know what exists. This article shows where the badges appear, what Free does with forms that use a Pro feature and how you publish such a form.

Requirements

  • Funnelforms Free 5.0 is installed and activated.
  • You need the right to edit forms.

Where to find it

  • In the editor under Funnelforms → Forms → open a form: Pro parts carry the Pro badge.
  • In the menu Funnelforms → Pro features: a Funnelforms Pro page with what Pro adds and a comparison of Free and Pro.

Features at a glance

  • No quantity limits: Free limits neither forms nor steps, fields or entries
  • Pro field types with the Pro badge in the side panel, neither clickable nor draggable
  • Paths and fields shown on certain answers by the chosen answer in Free, all other conditions in Pro
  • Per contact step one E-mail to you and one Confirmation to the visitor
  • The More settings card with the Pro settings; Pro settings a form already uses appear as a card of their own so you can switch them off
  • Hints in the editor when a form already contains a Pro feature
  • The statistics of the form in the editor and the figures per step on the canvas; the Analytics carry the Pro badge
  • Publishing only once no Pro feature is left in the form
  • A template gallery with the templates that use no Pro feature

Step by step

Get a form with a Pro feature ready for Free

  1. In the editor, click Publish at the top right.
  2. Read the messages under Fix these first. Each Pro feature appears as "The form uses "…", which is part of Funnelforms Pro, so Funnelforms Free cannot publish it."
  3. Remove every feature named: - Pro field type: select the question. It says "This field type is part of Funnelforms Pro. Delete the question to publish the form." Delete it and replace it with a Free field type. - Condition of a path: select the path and replace the condition with "when [question] is answered with [answer]", or delete the path. - Rule of a field under Show this field: choose a choice or dropdown question and an answer ("when [question] is answered with [answer]"), or click Always. - Earlier answers in questions and in the address of a redirect: remove placeholders such as {{field:email}} from the texts of the step and from the address and parameters of the redirect. In mails and in the text of the thank-you page they may stay, and fixed values may stay in the parameters. - Pro setting such as Languages, Calculations, Quiz, A/B tests, Payment, Confirm e-mail address or Access: open Settings. Free shows the card of every Pro setting the form uses there. Switch it off or remove its content, for example the calculations or the further languages. - Pro action or a second mail: select the contact step, open the After sending tab and delete the action. It says "… is part of Funnelforms Pro. Delete this action to publish the form." - Save incomplete entries or Continue later: turn the option off under Settings → General. - Custom CSS: empty the field under Design → Custom CSS.
  4. Click Publish again and then Publish now.

See what Funnelforms Pro adds

  1. Open Funnelforms → Pro features.
  2. Under What Pro adds the page shows the main Pro features, and under Free and Pro compared a table with Included and Not included for both editions. Among others it names Lead status, tags, assignment and notes, Board of the entries by lead status, Send an entry again to its actions, Export for Excel, Analytics mode on the canvas with paths, the strongest way and drop-off per field, Analytics of each form with sources and campaigns, Export of the statistics and Saved styles and import of your branding as Pro. Compare Free and Pro jumps to this table.
  3. Upgrade to Pro opens the plans in a new tab. Upgrade in three steps explains what comes next.

How it works

Where do the Pro badges appear in the editor?

AreaWhat you see in Free
Side panel AddSlider, Address, File upload, Signature, Repeat group and Appointment with the Pro badge. Hovering shows, for example, "Slider: in Funnelforms Pro".
Contact step, Field in this stepHTML with the Pro badge.
Path, Logic tabOnly "when [question] is answered with [answer]". Other conditions show "This path has a condition of Funnelforms Pro. …"
Field, Show this fieldOnly if … adds a rule on a choice or dropdown question. You choose only the question and the answer, as for a path. A rule from Pro shows "This field has a condition of Funnelforms Pro. Choose a question and an answer to replace it, or show the field always."
Question and redirectWithout Insert an earlier answer. On a redirect the part is called Parameters of the address: Add parameter adds parameters with a fixed value. If a value holds an earlier answer, it shows "Inserting earlier answers comes with Funnelforms Pro." with the Pro badge.
Contact step, After sending tabAdd an action offers only E-mail to you and Confirmation to the visitor, one each. Below, with the Pro badge: "Webhooks, CRM and newsletter tools, Slack and Teams, text messages, WhatsApp, conversion tracking and more than one mail of each kind come with Funnelforms Pro." Duplicate is disabled.
SettingsGeneral, Own page and the More settings card with the Pro badge: Languages, Calculations, Quiz, A/B tests, Payment, Confirm e-mail address, Access. If the form already uses one of them, for example because it comes from Pro, its card appears as well so you can switch it off.
DesignWithout Take from a website, without Your styles and without Custom CSS. The field Custom CSS only appears when the form already has custom CSS, so you can empty it.
StatisticsThe figures of the form compared with the period before, drop-off per step, devices and answers. "More in the analytics" carries the Pro badge and the link More about Funnelforms Pro. Show on the canvas shows the figures per step.
CanvasThe switch Analytics with the Pro badge leads to the page Pro features. It only appears if you have the right "See entries".

Which features belong to Pro?

Pro field types (slider, address with suggestions, file upload, signature, repeat group, appointment booking, phone verification, HTML in the contact step), conditions with AND/OR, numbers, text and dates, calculations and price calculators, hidden values of answers, earlier answers in questions and in the address of a redirect, more than one notification or confirmation mail, PDF of the entry, A/B tests, custom CSS and JavaScript, incomplete entries, save and continue later, lead scoring, quizzes, double opt-in, entries on the website, payments, password, entry limit and opening times, time limit, forms in several languages, and the actions webhooks, CRM and newsletter tools, Slack and Microsoft Teams, text messages, WhatsApp, conversion tracking and Google Ads conversions.

In the editor, saved styles (Your styles), Take from a website and the Analytics on the canvas are Pro as well. Outside the editor, lead status, tags, assignment, notes, the export For Excel, Send again…, the analytics of each form, sources and campaigns and the export of the statistics are Pro. That is why the CSV export of Free has no columns for lead status, tags and assignment.

What is available in Free as well?

Everything else: all other field types, paths by the chosen answer, showing fields on the chosen answer, the contact step and ends, earlier answers in mails and in the text of the thank-you page, themes, colours, fonts and Google Fonts, templates, preview, versions, the lock while someone else edits, the own page, the statistics of the form and the import from other plugins.

Funnelforms Free includes only the templates that work without a Pro feature. So you can publish them right away. More in Templates.

What happens to a form with a Pro feature on the website?

Free cannot publish such a form anew. If it is already published, for example because it was made with Funnelforms Pro, it depends on the feature:

  • The form doesn't appear for features without which it doesn't work properly: Pro field types, phone verification, Pro conditions, calculations, quizzes, A/B tests, payments, access, time limit, continue later, double opt-in, several languages and earlier answers in questions and redirects. Visitors see nothing in its place. People who edit forms see a note there at the shortcode.
  • The form appears for the other Pro features, such as several mails, webhooks or custom CSS. Pro actions such as webhooks, CRM connections or text messages don't run in Free, though, and Free does not output custom CSS.

Open the form in the editor, remove the Pro features as described above and publish it again.

What happens when you switch to Pro?

Funnelforms Pro is a separate plugin. When you activate it, it takes over your forms and entries as they are, and Funnelforms Free can be deleted. The Pro badges disappear and all features are open to you.

Best practices

  • Build forms in Free with Free field types from the start, such as Number instead of Slider.
  • Branch with choice or dropdown questions on the Logic tab; that works fully in Free.
  • Check imported forms for several mails and Pro fields before publishing.
  • Use the template gallery; its templates contain no Pro feature.

Troubleshooting

ProblemCauseSolution
"The form uses "…", which is part of Funnelforms Pro, so Funnelforms Free cannot publish it."The form contains the named Pro feature.Remove it as described in the steps.
A field type can't be clicked or dragged. It carries the Pro badge.Choose a Free field type.
E-mail to you is missing under Add an action. The contact step already has such a mail.Edit the existing mail; a second one exists only in Pro.
A published form doesn't appear on the website. It uses a Pro feature without which it doesn't work.Remove the Pro feature in the editor and publish again.
A second line on the canvas replaces the previous path. The step has no choice or dropdown question with an answer that has no path of its own. Free then adds no rule but moves the path without a condition to the new target.Branch on a choice or dropdown question on the Logic tab.
"The form uses "Earlier answers in questions and in the address of a redirect", …"A question, a text of the step or the redirect contains {{field:…}}.Remove the placeholder there.
The design looks different on the website than in Pro.Free does not output custom CSS.Empty Custom CSS or switch to Pro.
Settings shows a card such as Calculations without a badge. The form already uses this Pro setting.Switch it off or remove its content; then the form can be published.
A webhook from a Pro form no longer arrives.Pro actions don't run in Free.Switch to Pro or use the mail actions.

Tips

  • Free informs about Pro in detail only on the Funnelforms → Pro features page; elsewhere in the editor there are just the badges and short hints.
  • More about Funnelforms Pro on the More settings card leads to the same page.
  • Under Help, the Funnelforms → Pro features page also links to the Help center and the Support forum.

FAQ

Does Funnelforms Free limit forms or entries? No. Free limits neither forms nor steps, fields or entries. The line to Pro is drawn only at features.

Can I try a Pro feature in Free? No. Pro field types, Pro actions and Pro settings can't be newly added in Free. You can view and edit forms that already contain a Pro feature, but publish them only without it.

Do I lose forms when I switch from Pro to Free? No. The forms stay. Forms with certain Pro features don't appear on the website in Free, though, until you remove those features.

Why do I see Pro features in Free at all? So you know what exists, and so you can recognise and adjust forms from Pro in Free.
