Analytics mode in the builder

The analytics mode lays the figures of the published version over the logic tree: how many visitors take which path, where they leave, the strongest path and which fields stop them. You can keep editing while it is on.

The analytics mode shows the statistics of a form right on the canvas of the builder. You see how many visitors take which path between the steps, at which step many leave and which path from the start is the strongest. For every step it also shows which fields stop visitors. So you find weak spots exactly where you fix them.

Requirements

  • Funnelforms Pro. This feature is not included in Funnelforms Free.
  • The form is published. The analytics mode shows the figures of the published version.
  • You have the right "See entries". Without it the switch Analytics and the shortcut A are missing.
  • The columns Filled in and Last before leaving need views in which the visitor allowed statistics (extended statistics).

Where to find it

  • Open the form in the editor, workspace Structure, the switch Analytics at the top right of the canvas.
  • Shortcut A, as long as no input has the focus. Under ? it is listed as "Turn the analytics on the canvas on or off".
  • You see the figures of a form without the canvas under Funnelforms → Statistics when you click the form.

Features at a glance

  • Period 7 days, 30 days (preselected) or 90 days.
  • Paths: thickness and opacity of every connection by the share of visitors who took it, labelled like "123 · 45%".
  • Drop-off per step: a band Few leave, Some leave or Many leave, plus reached, left and the median time in the step.
  • Strongest path: the path most visitors took from the start, with a star.
  • Analytics in the properties: the fields of the selected step with Check failed, Filled in and Last before leaving, plus the answers of choice questions.
  • Paths in the properties: all connections as a table while nothing is selected.
  • A legend at the bottom of the canvas and a hint with fewer than 30 views.
  • Editing stays possible. The analytics mode is only a layer over the logic tree.

Step by step

Turn the analytics mode on

  1. Open the form in the editor.
  2. Click Analytics at the top right of the canvas, or press A.
  3. Choose 7 days, 30 days or 90 days.
  4. Below, read how many views the figures rest on, for example "1,020 views from 2026-09-21 to 2026-10-20, of the published version."
  5. To turn it off, click Analytics again or press A.

Find the biggest drop-off point

  1. Turn the analytics mode on.
  2. Look for steps with the band Many leave.
  3. Click the step. The section Analytics appears at the top of the properties.
  4. In the table of fields, check the column Check failed. A high share points to a field whose input is often refused, such as a phone number or a required field.
  5. Change the field right here, for example its hint or input rule, and publish the form.

Compare paths

  1. Turn the analytics mode on and click an empty spot of the canvas so nothing is selected.
  2. In the properties, Paths lists every connection with Views and Share.
  3. The strongest path carries a star. On the canvas it is drawn in the brand colour.

How it works

What do the paths show?

Every connection shows how many views took it and what share that is of the visitors who reached the step before. When you point at the label you read, for example, "123 views took this path, 45% of those who reached the step before." The larger the share, the thicker and stronger the line. Paths nobody took in the period are dashed and faint. Funnelforms counts paths between two steps. If several connections lead between the same two steps, they therefore show the same figures.

What do the steps show?

  • Steps and contact steps show, for example, "120 reached · 30 left (25%)" and the band by the share of those who left: Few leave (under 15%), Some leave (15 to 30%), Many leave (30% or more). Every band has its own colour, pattern and border; colour is never the only cue.
  • Median time here is the median time in the step of sent forms. It shows from three sent forms on.
  • A contact step also shows how many sent the form, for example "38 sent (32%)".
  • An end shows "38 sent forms ended here", or how many views reached it from a question.
  • Steps nobody reached in the period are grey and show "Nobody reached this in the period."

How is the strongest path found?

Funnelforms starts at the start and, at every step, follows the connection most views took, until no connection was taken. These paths are drawn in the brand colour with a star, and their steps are outlined.

What do the columns of the fields mean?

  • Check failed: in how many views the field's check stopped the visitor, for example because a required field was empty or an input was not valid, with the share of those who reached the step. Funnelforms counts this for all views.
  • Filled in: in how many views the visitor put something into the field.
  • Last before leaving: in how many views without a sent form this field was the last one filled in.

Filled in and Last before leaving count only views with consent to statistics. Below the table you read, for example, "Filled in and last before leaving: from 412 of 1,020 views with consent to statistics." If there were none, the columns show dashes and the hint "Filled in and last before leaving are counted only for views with consent to statistics; there were none in the period."

When do the extended statistics count?

The extended statistics come only with Pro. They run only where the visitor allowed statistics when the form was counted:

  • In the privacy mode EU after a yes in the cookie banner (category statistics through the WP Consent API).
  • In the privacy mode Global as long as the cookie banner does not report a no and the browser sends no Global Privacy Control.

Funnelforms then also records the first input into each field, the device class from the window width (mobile, tablet, desktop) and a random visitor id. The browser keeps the id for 180 days in local storage under the key ffx_vid; visits do not extend it. The website stores only a keyed hash of it, different for each form, and deletes it with the other measurement data after 400 days. If the visitor withdraws the permission, the browser deletes the id the next time a page with a form loads. Typed text is never recorded, only that a field was filled in. The analytics of the form show device class and visitor id under Views by device and returning visitors.

Few views

With fewer than 30 views in the period you read: "Fewer than 30 views: the shares can change a lot with each visitor." Choose a longer period then.

Best practices

  • Start with the step that shows Many leave and lies on the strongest path. A change there reaches the most visitors.
  • For drop-offs, check Check failed first. Clear hints and fitting input rules often lower it a lot.
  • After a change, compare the same period again once enough new views have come in.
  • Name the extended statistics in your privacy policy. The plugin's suggested text describes them for both privacy modes.

Tips

  • The analytics mode changes nothing in the form. You can edit steps, fields and paths while it is on.
  • The table Paths in the properties shows the same figures as the canvas, also for screen readers.
  • For sources, campaigns, times to fill in and the heatmap, open the Form analytics.

FAQ

Do I see in the analytics mode what single visitors typed? No. It shows only counts and shares. Typed text is never recorded.

Why are figures for Filled in missing although there are views? These columns count only views in which the visitor allowed statistics. All other figures hold for all views.

Do the extended statistics set a cookie? No. They keep a random id in the browser's local storage, and only with the visitor's permission.

Is the analytics mode in Funnelforms Free? No. In Free the switch Analytics carries the badge Pro and leads to the page Pro features; there, too, it only appears with the right "See entries". With Show on the canvas Free shows at every step how many reached it and left there.
